Top posts and general thoughts

Well, I must say that I’m intrigued to look into the blog stats for this blog, and to see which of my posts are getting the most traffic. Especially since I’m not really doing all that much to ‘push’ the profile of the blog, aside from naming and tagging my posts in an SEO-friendly fashion. [...]

A great way to spice up vegetables

After the previous post of much seriousness and general concern, I wanted to share a new way of doing vegetables for dinner that’s better than simply steaming them, or stir-frying them, or serving them raw in a salad. Generally speaking I’m just cooking for two (although I always seem to over-cater!), and I use the [...]

The current financial madness

Having a husband employed in the London City corporate banking world, I suppose I’m on the ‘curious and relatively infomed’ end the spectrum when it comes to normal people watching the financial markets tear themselves apart. (Very) Fortunately for us, it seems that hubby’s job is very unlikely to be one of the predicted 110,000 [...]

The problem with holidays …

… is that eventually they end and you have to go back to work. Well, holidays (like life) doesn’t just pay for itself. Unfortunately. Unless you’re really lucky and born with more material resources than most people can even begin to imagine (but then it seems you’re likely to be an ungrateful, spoilt brat who [...]

Necessary evils

Monthly billings! Yeach! Blah. But as they contribute to my KPIs at work, they have to be done. And unfortunately, no amount of procrastination will make them go away!

An interesting discussion – social stereotypes & coming out

While cruising through my usual e-news website (you can take me half a world away, but I’ll still need news from home), I came across a really interesting blog post, and the subsequent discussion. I think the whole question of ‘coming out’ is a really interesting one that is unfortunately often very fraught and emotionally [...]

The benefits of a small kitchen

While making my world-beating pancakes this morning, I started to think about what the benefits are of our typically tiny, London apartment kitchen. (This list may well grow over time … if I can think of any more plus-points) Everything is within arms-reach (or at most, a step) away The restricted cupboard space is a [...]

Is Google the next Big Brother?

As I’ve said in a previous post, I think almost my whole online life (apart from this blog) is completely ‘Googlised’. So I’ve got a pretty positive view on Google as a company and as a service provider over-all. However, I was checking out Google’s new Street View service (it’s an add-on to Google Maps) [...]

It’s the little things …

Why is it that when it’s least convenient for travel arrangements to go awry, they do? Soon-to-be hubby (19 days and counting!) was booked on a mid-evening flight from Berlin Tegel back to Heathrow yesterday, and due to mysterious engine trouble the flight was delayed by about 2hrs in taking off. Which meant that instead [...]

Is there such a thing as ‘fate’?

This is a question that I wonder about from time to time, mainly in relation to whether I’m fatalistic in my approach to life. Like everyone else I’m a product of my experiences, and of my learnings from them. But to what extent are the things I’ve learnt over time really be consciousness rationalising difficult and upsetting situations to help me deal with them? And even if that’s what I’m doing, does it really matter?
