So to start … I’m an almost 30-something woman living in London who, like the vast majority of Londoners is an interloper. I’m from further afield than many, but as an Antipodean I’m certainly not the only one from the other side of the world calling the UK ‘home – for now’.
I’ve lived in London for 2.5yrs now. I’m here with my soon-to-be husband (also an Antipodean) and we can’t see ourselves going home anytime soon. There’s simply too much to see & do in the world that is made much easier by being based here. And to be honest, as gorgeous as home is, you truly don’t appreciate how fabulous it is to get on a train at St Pancras and get off 2hrs later in Paris until you’re here and able to do it whenever you want (cash flow and last minute deals permitting, of course). When at home, the closest neighbouring country is a 3hr flight away, and to get to Paris takes at least 23hrs of cattle-class.
To start off on the right foot, I have a confession to make. This isn’t my first entrance into the Blogosphere. My other blog is an ‘our’ blog, and we started it as an online travel diary when we first left home to travel through Europe on our way to setting up life in the UK. It’s still very much active (and you can find it here), but as I’m always writing it sort-of on behalf of my soon-to-be hubby as well as myself, I find myself self censoring what I write about, and what I say.
So I’ve decided to start out ‘on my own’ … so that I can post my musings without the sense of speaking for someone else, and also with a degree of comfort that a nom de plume provides.
I’m not really sure how this blog will develop, but I will hazard a guess that eventually it will cover the gamut of my various interests – photography, messing about in the kitchen, languages, travel and family. And I imagine that eventually this blog will give people ‘out there’ a much better idea of who I am than I realise I’ll be giving them at the time. But then, that’s the beauty of this blogging business, isn’t it?
And finally, my hopes for this blog? Nothing too grand … although it would be nice if, eventually it strikes a chord with at least some of my fellow bods and I get to meet & chat to others active in blog-space. I certainly hope that’s not asking too much!
